MISSION:  Suntree Country Club exists to satisfy its members by providing exceptional recreational, dining and social programs and activities managed and operated efficiently by dedicated associates.

Club History:
The grounds that comprise today's Suntree Country Club were once the home of the Ais Indians, forerunners of the Seminoles, who lived along the Indian River.   In 1513, Juan Ponce De Leon explored the area, now comprising Suntree, during his northward journey up the Florida coast.  The Ais often ventured inland to hunt deer, whose presence still constituted a problem to Suntree homeowners into the 1990's. The land then was covered with pine trees, palmetto bushes, native bluestem, wire grass and hard scrabble.  It remained unchanged from the 16th century until 1962 when a group headed by James Pruitt Sr. bought 3,000 acres and converted it into a Planned Unit Development.  Pruitt wanted his projected community to be called Glenn City, in honor of the astronaut John Glenn, but market conditions were not favorable for the development.  Charles Nelson, a relative of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, placed an option on the area in the early 1970's. He started developing Suntree and adapted the design concept and colors of the National Airlines logo but also featuring our familiar tree.  Bill Nelson is said to have coined the name Suntree.   More >>
